news, awards, etc. Industry RECOGNITION Engineering Excellence Danbury Hospital patient tower, ED honored for pioneering healthcare facility design Danbury Hospital's new 11-story patient tower and emergency department received an Engineering Excel- lence Gold Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies, New York Chapter. Completed in June 2014, some of the unique engineer- ing design features included enhanced fi l- tration for air handling units located near the hospital's helipad; an energy-ef cient radi- ant fl oor heating and cooling system for the lobby entrance and an entrance snow-melting system. Syska Hennessy de- signed state-of-the-art energy recovery and clean air systems for the ER. Patient rooms were designed with enhanced features that include multiple lighting controls; smart thermostat design for cooling/heating systems and an ease of maintenance that sup- ports infection control. When compared to a baseline model for a similar facility, the de- sign is 36 percent more energy ef cient. The project team included architect The S/L/A/M Collaborative and the Gilbane construction team. Perkins Eastman and Califor- nia healthcare design fi rm Lee, Burkhart, Liu (LBL Architects) have recently merged practices. The combined international fi rm totals 880 employees, stationed in San Francisco, California and will maintain and grow its practice in Los Angeles. WSP has acquired ccrd , a national MEP engineering and commission- ing fi rm. The acquisition enhances the fi rm's capabilities in health- care and science/technology. Beebe Healthcare Receives Award for Excellence in Facility Management Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware, is the 2014 recipient of the Excellence in Health Care Facility Management award from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. The award, sponsored by Trane, recognizes an individual or facility management department that has implemented new or innovative programs or processes. The Environment of Care Committee at Beebe Healthcare worked to develop a comprehensive spreadsheet tool that tracked compliance information during environmental tours. The tool includes 53 questions and incorporates 2014 National Patient Safety Goals.
