IN BRIEF OUTPATIENT Dedication Ceremony Held for Expanded Harmony Cancer Center University of Colorado Health recently dedicated an expanded outpatient Harmony Cancer Center designed by Heery International on the health system's Fort Collins, Colorado South campus. The facility was built by Adolfson & Peterson Construction. The $10.7-million, 44,390-square-foot project is being built in three phases to allow the cancer center to remain operational throughout construction and continue meeting the needs of its patients from northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. Phases 1 and 2 are complete. Phase 3 will begin construction in late February of 2015. Phase 1 consisted of a 4,400-square-foot renovation of the existing and fully opera- tional radiation oncology suite. The second phase included construction of a 32,150-square- foot, two-story addition and in- terior renovation that converted the existing lobby into a Main Street concept that connected dif erent oncology departments with the cancer center addition. Design for the final phase started in August 2014. A 7,840-square-foot renova- tion, this phase will inte- grate a survivorship center, physical rehabilitation, alternative medicine depart- ment and flexible confer- ence zone into the center. Projects completed & upcoming Charlotte VA Health Care Center Reaches Construction Milestone JE Dunn Construction Company recently hosted a topping out celebration for the Charlotte VA Health Care Center in North Carolina, which will serve the Mid-Atlantic region's rapidly growing veteran population. The event marked a construction milestone for the $104-million, six- story and 420,000-square-foot facility. The healthcare complex, located on 35 acres near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, will be the largest leased facility of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Designed to achieve LEED Silver certifi cation from the U.S. Green Building Council, the project is scheduled for completion in spring 2016. It will produce some 2,000 jobs during construction and, upon completion, about 500-600 permanent jobs. Topping Out Ceremony Held for Eastern Maine Medical Center Modernization Project The construction management joint venture between Cianbro Corp. and Brasfi eld & Gorrie recently topped out the Eastern Maine Medical Center's new eight-story patient tower in Bangor, Maine. The 361,000-square-foot patient tower will support a sterile processing department, main lobby, heart center, surgical suite, NICU and three fl oors of private patient rooms. The project was designed by MorrisSwitzer~Environments for Health and utilizes Evidence- Based Design in its approach to patient-centered care. It is a Center for Health Design Pebble Project member. The project is sited to take advantage of the expansive views of the nearby river and is designed to accommodate future growth.
