New Research Building to Address Diabetes, Related Health Issues Winthrop-University Hospital recently hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration to mark the grand opening of the new Research and Academic Center in Mineola, New York. To encourage this interaction, open, fl exible laboratories connect to the clinical research and pa- tient care environments through communal spaces. Key features of the design include: > Intuitive building layout intended to engage community and encourage the use of stairs to promote exercise among visitors > Building angled of the street grid so as to enhance visual connectivity to the village and Winthrop-University Hospi- tal, as well as for the building's maximum solar ef ciency > Green roof and water re- tention and treatment system > Basement-level research support space and below- grade parking 10 Medical Construction & Design | M A RCH /A PR IL 2015 | MCDM AG.COM
