First, consider lighting levels and lighting details that make the public environment more inviting. At night the entry lobby should be well lit and inviting, which can actually reinforce easy campus wayfi nding. Details of lighting can also create either an institutional quality (large ceiling fi xtures) or a more natural feeling of indirect lighting. Another common pitfall in the design of campus environments is the lack of continuity as one moves from one building to another, even though each building should be experienced as part of the public environment palette.
