The hospital's dominant feature is thoughtfully placed windows that fl ood the interior with natural light. Large windows combined with the ori- entation of the building allows patient rooms, respite areas for families and staff space to have spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee skyline, even from patient beds. The majority of patient rooms have views of Lake Michigan, rooftop gardens or green space, allowing the incorpora- tion of nature as a part of the healing environment.
Gradually scaled to fi t seamlessly into the existing historic neighbor- hood, the austere design both harmo- nizes and enhances its community. It also includes street-level access to many services.
