New Phoebe Sumter Medical Center opens

hosted the grand opening of the new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Ga. Phoebe Sumter Medical Center
and its surrounding community have come a long way since the days of tents donated by FEMA and GEMA, modular buildings and an interim hospital facility. The Americus Community has not only grown as a group of people but also as a medical family. On March 1, 2007, Americus was hit with a powerful and devastating tornado. The facility will also feature the most sophisticated diagnostic imaging equipment, such as an intraoperative MRI scanner and high-speed, low- dose CT scanners. With healing gardens, soaring lob- bies, a hand-picked art collection and cheerful, light-fi lled patient rooms, the new building is designed to provide a welcoming and caring environment to advance the healing process. Each patient room will have a private bath and sleeping accommodations for family members. Sound-absorbing features in patient-care corridors, rang- ing from acoustical ceiling tiles to a quiet nurse call system, will promote a tranquil environment.
Saint Thomas Hospital fi rst in Tennessee to open hybrid operating rooms Saint Thomas Hospital, a member of Saint Thomas Health, is the fi rst hospi- tal in Tennessee to open two state-of- the-art hybrid operating rooms. Both OR rooms include the latest medical imaging technology available. Saint Thomas Hospital has made
a signifi cant investment in the hybrid operating rooms, which will be used exclusively for cardiac and vascular procedures. The hospital joins Johns Hopkins and Cleveland Clinic as the only hospitals in the eastern United States to have two suites within its OR. The hybrid OR functions as a tra- ditional operating room, but also has advanced imaging in the room, aiding

partnered with the county to rebuild the Sumter hospital with help from the KLMK team. The new replacement hospital
campus is located on a 282-acre, greenfi eld site with three specialty clinic buildings totaling 52,000-square-feet. The 76-bed hospital is 183,000-square- feet and features all private rooms and state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The facility is working to obtain LEED-Silver certifi cation.
