6 Medical Construction & Design | JA N UA RY/ F EBRUA RY 2016 | MCDM AG.COM EXPANSION 7-Story Patient Tower Brings Plan to Completion Holy Cross Health of Silver Spring, Maryland, is celebrating the expansion of Holy Cross Hospital and the completion of a seven-year plan to meet the needs of its communities. The new seven- story patient care building represents the hospital's largest expansion in more than 50 years, adding 232,000 square feet and bringing the latest technology, privacy and comfort to all patients. As part of the expansion, an additional 42,000 square feet of the main hospital building 's critical care and surgery areas has been expanded or renovated, and 300 new parking spaces were created. With the addition of 150 private patient rooms in critical care, intermediate care and medical-surgical units, the hospital joins Holy Cross Germantown Hospital as the only area hospitals to offer private rooms to all patients. The facility features a designated space for older adults in the renovated surgery department. The curved building design that follows the beltway incorporates a curtainwall design into the structure to ensure a quiet and peaceful environment to enhance patient recovery. A beautifully designed concourse connects the new south building to the rest of the hospital. The facility is targeting LEED Gold certifi cation. Projects completed & upcoming CallisonRTKL was selected to design a new seven-level, $466-million inpatient pavilion for Health Quest's Vassar Brothers Medical Center , located in Poughkeepsie, New York. The 696,000-square-foot facility is slated to be registered LEED for Healthcare Version 4. Additional project partners include BR+A as MEP engineers, Graef as structural engineers, the Chazen Companies as civil engineers and Dirtworks as landscape architects. Construction will begin May 2016 and is slated for completion in January 2019. The new $28-million, 86,000-square-foot Faith Community Hospital in Jacksboro, Texas triples the capacity of the old hospital. The facility features a walk-in community clinic, freestanding emergency facility and larger physical and cardiovascular therapy departments. It is the fi rst hospital in Texas to use geothermal heating and cooling systems. O'Connell Robertson is the architect and Hoar Construction is the construction manager. A recent project designed by MKM architecture + design and built by Weigand Construction , Inc. for St. Joseph Hospital located in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana is complete and open to the public. St. Joseph Hospital is a 191-bed facility dedicated to meeting the ever-changing needs of the neighborhoods in and around the heart of downtown Fort Wayne. The Neenan Company recently broke ground on two new medical projects. Located in Holyoke, Colorado, Melissa Memorial Hospital's renovation and expansion project will be complete in the summer of 2016. Sakakawea Medical Center , in Hazen, North Dakota, will replace an existing medical center and will serve as both a critical access hospital and a primary care medical home. It is slated for completion in December 2016.
