He brings more than 23 years of professional experience encompassing all as- pects of project delivery, from strategic plan- ning and programming through design and construction. Focusing on healthcare projects, Safaee is working from the Van Nuys, California offi ce. Safaee draws from extensive experi- ence in ICT visioning, planning, design and project management. He is an avid speaker on healthcare ICT design at na- tional conferences. With a degree in civil engineering from Ferdosi University in Mashhad, Iran, Safaee has spent his career working in the information technology fi eld. In prior posts, he managed the implementation of the fi rst "Digital High School" in the 1990s for the Los Angeles Unifi ed School District, co-founded a veteran-owned small business that established processes to navigate government contracting proposals and managed numerous large healthcare projects. Michael Solak Named Northeast Regional VP at Hammes Company Hammes Company appointed Michael Solak as the regional vice president out of the fi rm's Boston, Massachusetts offi ce. He has more than 30 years of experi- ence in healthcare capital facilities de- velopment, design and construction manage- ment including leading facilities operations, certifi cate of need, site selection, fi nancial feasibility, zoning and project implemen- tation. He will be the operations lead in New England and will be working closely with the Washington, D.C., offi ce in expanding Hammes' footprint in New England. He is working with Eastern Maine Medical Center on the completion of its $180-mil- lion expansion and renovation project. New Shepley Bulfi nch Principal to Focus on Biophilic Design Sonja Bochart , IIDA, LEED AP BD&C;, WELL AP, has joined Shepley Bulfi nch as a principal. With 20 years of commercial design experience, primarily in health- care design, she creates meaningful and Patrick McCurdy Joins CannonDesign as Healthcare Practice Leader Patrick McCurdy , AIA, has joined CannonDesign as a healthcare practice leader in the fi rm's Los Angeles, California offi ce. A senior vice president, he will be responsible for focusing on client engagement, fi nancial performance and staff mentorship, all while providing leadership on healthcare projects throughout Southern California. He brings more than 25 years of design and project management experience to the fi rm, with proven expertise in business development and marketing. Over the course of his career, McCurdy has collaborated on a number of projects in California and beyond, including UC San Diego Health System's Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and the renovation of Thornton Hospital's cafeteria — both of which are next door to CannonDesign's recently completed Jacobs Medical Center. He also served as a senior leader for the Shanghai Chenzheng Pudong Hospital, the largest hospital built in China in one phase. Arup Welcomes Min Kim to Healthcare Team Min Kim , P.E., LEED AP, has been added to Arup's Houston, Texas offi ce as associate principal. He brings expertise in patient-centered design and managing interdisciplinary projects to the fi rm's team of healthcare designers. His extensive knowledge of the local industry will support the fi rm's continuing work to develop sustainable and resilient healthcare design solutions. Kim comes to Arup from Affi liated Engineers, where he was director of operations and healthcare leader. Prior to that, he worked at Smith Seckman Reid and Syska Hennessy Group. He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Houston Area Association of Healthcare Engineers. HDR Expands Health Practice in Mid-Atlantic Region HDR has expanded its mid-Atlantic region presence with a new team of healthcare design experts in Richmond, Virginia. The leadership team is made up of Sandy Shield Tkacz, healthcare principal, Bill Portes, senior project manager and Dennis Cummings, senior project architect. Sandra Shield Tkacz , AIA, ACHA, EDAC, NCARB, (center) will spearhead growth of the health practice in Central Virginia and surrounding regions. Most recently, she led HDR's health architecture practice on the West Coast. She has an extensive portfolio of broad project experience with academic medical centers, community hospitals, chil- dren's hospitals, ambulatory facilities and educational facilities. Bill Portes , AIA, (right) has more than two decades of experience. He has signifi cant experience leading, managing and planning all aspects of complex projects. He is fl uent in health codes and regulations Dennis Cummings , AIA, (left) has over 25 years of experience. He brings a wealth of knowledge in healthcare design with skills ranging from programming, planning, design and building construction.
