Slated to open in late 2018, the project team includes Mortenson Construction and AECOM. The new hospital will feature 192 inpatient beds. An adult sub-specialty hospital will offer plastic and reconstructive surgery and brain and spine, endocrinology, orthopedics, pulmonology and heart services. It will also feature the highest level, level III, neonatal intensive care unit and a pediatric unit with rooftop garden. Multi-disciplinary physician care clin- ics will serve adult and pediatric patients. Beyond generating more than 400 new permanent healthcare jobs, the project is a catalyst for other economic growth, creating more than 1,100 ad- ditional construction jobs and featuring 263 acres of land for further development for hotels, restaurants, convenience stores and other retail outlets. The new Heart & Vascular Hospital is a holistic environment with programs and spaces that support well-being throughout the facility. Among the amenities are a conference center with a demonstration kitchen that is a part of the cardiac rehab program, a meditation/ sacred space and a variety of waiting spaces — family pods, away spaces and spaces near interactive art and displays. The project team includes EYP Health (formerly WHR Design PC), BBH Design, Skanska and RMF Engineering. LARGE TILT-WALL HOSPITAL MAKES DEBUT IN TEXAS The Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital in Texas recently opened its doors. Designed by PhiloWilke Partner- ship, the 32-acre master-planned campus hosts an 81-bed hospital with state-of the-art operating rooms, an intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit. The facility was completed on a 24-month accelerated construction schedule and is one of the country's larg- est tilt-wall hospitals. In a tilt-up con- struction project, the building's walls are poured onsite in large slabs of concrete and then raised into position. In total, the facility contains 20,000 cubic yards of concrete, more than 2,500 tons of steel framing and 211 miles of data cables. In order to accommodate future growth, the Cypress campus master plan also includes the capacity to nearly double the number of inpatient beds to 145 in the patient bed tower, the construction of a dedicated Memorial Hermann Life Flight helipad and space for two additional patient bed towers and two additional medical plazas. The newest Karmanos Cancer Institute, located at the McLaren Port Huron cam- pus in Port Huron, Michigan, has opened. The project was jointly designed by Cal- lisonRTKL and SmithGroupJJR. Serving as the construction management team for this new facility was the joint venture of Barton Malow and Christman Company. The $21-million, 35,000-square-foot building is the fi rst phase of a larger transfor- mation underway on the campus. The center provides comprehensive oncology services, integrating chemotherapy and radiation ther- apy into one facility.
