DIAGNOSTIC LAB A patient can have their labwork done at the same location and on the same day as their doctor's visit. Results which would usually take days to receive are available the next day for most tests. Closer to home creates value The Houston, Texas region is home to four of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. This suburban sprawl has cre- ated a greater need for providing quality healthcare out in the community. Caring for the family was the primary concern in the development of the CCC model. The design takes the stress out of scheduling appointments for routine health needs by off ering families convenient options, such as same-day appointments and extended evening and weekend hours. Within the family unit, the parents and children can all be treated at the same location to help accommodate their busy schedule. Fully integrated Patients benefi t by having their physician manage all aspects of care delivery and wellness. To better coordinate patient care, all patient information is securely kept in an electronic medical record for easy access by clinicians across the inte- grated network. Online portals provide patients with a resource tool for accessing health information and records, mes- saging providers and requesting refi lls. Appointments are available six days a week, with extended evening hours. Convenience without compromise A unique aspect of these facilities is the incorporation of specialty clinics. A new service in some of the centers is a women's breast care center. Memorial Hermann's Convenient Care Centers are in partner- ship with UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for this service. This partnership off ers greater access to comprehensive care, spe- cialized breast screening and diagnostics. A new element to these types of facili- ties is the retail pharmacy. While work- ing on our recent projects at PhiloWilke Partnership, we've noticed more owners have been evaluating the addition of an in-house pharmacy, allowing patients to fi ll and receive their new prescriptions at the same location with no need to make an additional stop on the way home. A patient can see their doctor, get their lab- work, mammogram and fi ll their prescrip- tions all before they leave the clinic. The convenient care center model embodies all the best qualities of one- stop-shop retail healthcare, by providing a multitude of needed services close to home. These centers have become a vital and integral part of their communities.
