She has more than 20 years of architecture, interior design, plan- ning and graphic design experience. Her health- care design expertise includes behavioral/ mental health facilities, pediatric healthcare facilities, academic medical centers, birth centers and ambu- latory care centers. She is a member of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers and 2013 past president. She is a Certifi ed Healthcare Interior Designer. San Antonio Building/ Infrastructure Professional Joins Forces with Hammes Alvaro Rizo-Patron has recently joined Hammes as the new regional vice president for the company's grow- ing Texas market. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience with major building and infrastructure projects, including many in the healthcare and education sectors. He has been responsible for quality delivery and customer satisfac- tion on more than 40 capital improvement projects collectively valued at over $12 bil- lion. Prior to joining Hammes, Rizo-Patron served in several leadership positions at Jacobs and Parsons. He also worked at the Southwest Institute in various positions, including principal research engineer for the Robotics & Automation Department. Cynthia Keeff e Joins HDR's San Francisco Studio as Regional Director for Health Cynthia Keeff e , AIA, ACHA, LEED BD+C, has been named regional director for health in HDR's San Francisco, Cali- fornia architecture studio, focusing on the West Coast region. She brings more than 30 years of experience in architectural project management, planning and design and construction adminis- tration specializing in healthcare facility new construction and reno- vation projects. She has led com- plex healthcare and research labora- tory projects involving master planning, functional space programming and design and construction administration. She has served as chairman of the Advanced Education Committee with the Ameri- can College of Healthcare Architects and, for several years, developed and moderated the ACHA's Master's series. Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Expands Healthcare Services in Texas Planning, engineering and program management fi rm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. is expanding its healthcare services in Texas to off er a wide range of services (in addition to MEP) to health- care clients, including master planning and design, health facility programming, production and contract administration and project management. The fi rm also will leverage the expertise of its parent company Leo A Daly. To lead this ef- fort, the fi rm hired R. Gregg Moon , a national healthcare expert. Moon has more than 30 years of expe- rience as a planner and project manager in healthcare design and architecture. He has held several leadership positions with professional organizations, including the American Institute of Architects, American Col- lege of Healthcare Architects and the Facility Guidelines Institute – Health Guidelines Revision Committee. Cleveland Clinic Appoints Chief Design Offi cer Cleveland Clinic in Ohio has appointed Christopher Connell — a partner at the London architectural fi rm Foster + Part- ners — as its chief design offi cer. He will be responsible for the creation, strategic alignment and execution of architecture and other design initiatives to create serene, restorative en- vironments consistent with Cleveland Clinic. As a partner at Foster + Partners, Connell was involved in the creation of the Cleveland Clinic master plan, which was designed to provide a welcoming campus-like environment for patients and serve as a road map for future campus develop- ment. Connell has also been involved in the design of Cleveland Clinic's Health Education Campus, which will include a 27,000-square-foot atrium and four stories of learning spaces that encourage interaction among the medical, dental, nursing and allied health students. Joan Suchomel Joins CannonDesign Health Practice as Senior VP Joan L. Suchomel , AIA, ACHA, EDAC, has joined CannonDesign's health practice as a senior vice presi- dent and senior medical planner based in Chicago, Illinois. In her role, she will partner with healthcare clients to develop and help execute future thinking strategies and solutions. She possesses more than 30 years of experience, most recently as a principal at Eckenhoff Saunders Architects and as a director at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's Chicago offi ce. She has worked on a wide range of notable projects and comprehensive master plans for many of the healthcare industry's leading systems. She is the 2017 past president of the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health, where she led the creation of a strategic plan to optimize the academy's service to its members and its impact on the greater healthcare design community.
