14 Medical Construction & Design | J U LY/AUGUST 2017 | MCDM AG.COM AWARDS KAI Design & Build Receives Construction Industry Awards for Healthcare Projects KAI Design & Build was recently honored with a pair of Construction Industry Best Practice Awards from the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers for its work on the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Medical Center at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and the Mid Campus Center at Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare, St. Louis, Missouri. The SLCCC Best Practice awards recognize successful implementation of one or more of the 17 Best Practices validated by the Construction Industry Institute to improve cost, sched- ule and quality for construction projects. KAI's two winning teams included the Clayco/KAI Joint Venture, which received a "Best Practices Award in Constructability" for work on the Mid Campus Center at Washington University and the KAI/United Excel team, which received a "Best Practices Award in Planning for Startup" for hospital realignment at the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Medical Center. Industry news, awards, etc. Submissions Being Accepted for Healthcare Interior Design Competition Submissions are being accepted for the International Interior Design Association's 6 th annual Healthcare Interior Design Competition, which honors and celebrates outstanding origi- nality and excellence in the design and furnish- ings of healthcare interior spaces. Submissions are being accepted in the following categories: ambulatory, hospitals and extended care and assisted living facili- ties. The competition is open to participants worldwide. The Health Care Institute Launches HCI North Texas The Health Care Institute has launched HCI North Texas. The new Texas com- ponent joins HCI Chicago and HCI Midwest as a local representative of HCI activities, in support of the national organization's mis- sion to enhance the skills of facility management professionals and further the overall profession. HCI North Texas will provide a regional focus for healthcare facility professionals by providing local meetings, educational programs and networking events. Members also can help shape the future of the industry by participating in HCI's research initiatives and a wide variety of education sessions. Members include hospital administrators, facility managers, design and construction professionals, consultants, vendors and students who serve academic medical centers and community hospitals, retirement facilities, specialty hospitals and clinics. The organization is seeking additional volunteers with a passion for providing education and professional development opportunities. Healthcare Sector Featured in ASID Industry Briefs The American Society of Interior Designers has published fi ve sector brief reports that explore the various infl uences aff ecting the interior design industry and, in turn, the work of interior designers. The briefs examine the factors aff ect- ing design in the education, healthcare, hospi- tality, residential and workplace sectors. Building on the research published in the ASID 2016-2017 Outlook and State of the Industry report, each brief presents an exploration of the unique fac- tors aff ecting interior design in each of the fi ve sectors, including the economy, environmental protection, security, generational diff erences, well-being, community, design excellence, data and knowledge and value proposition.
