6 Medical Construction & Design | JA N UA RY/ F EBRUA RY 2018 | MCDM AG.COM Construction began for the expansion of the Richard A. Reif Heart Institute in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Designed by Heery International, the 102,637-square-foot Center for Heart and Vascular Care will add a new ground fl oor entrance and central atrium along with a three- story bed wing with 63 private rooms and an outpatient cardiac clinic. The project is expected to be fi nished in 2019. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Grand Island Regional Hospital in Nebraska. When complete, it will include 64 beds, be four stories and roughly 174,000 square feet. Being designed by HDR, construction is expected to be complete in October 2019. Ground was recently broken for the UT Southwestern Medical Center William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital's Tower III expansion in Dallas, Texas. CallisonRTKL is the architect of record on the project, while Hoefer Wysocki Architecture is the design architect and Austin Commercial is general contractor. The expansion will add an additional 644,000 square feet of new space to the existing 1.2-million- square-foot facility. Miron Construction Co., Inc., in partnership with Studio 483 Architects, began work on the Acute Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at University of Io wa Hospitals and Clinics. Miron's scope of work includes renovating 22,500 square feet of the current level three patient fl oor within the hospital. The project is scheduled to be complete in August 2018. Center for Heart and Vascular Care Projects Tampa General Hospital's Brandon Healthplex has been completed. Designed by GS&P;, the new outpatient center is one of the fi rst facilities in Florida to include the array of acuity levels and service centers in one building. ARCO Murray Construction Company served as the general contractor on the project. The curved main entry façade draws inspiration from the gentle waves that surround the Tampa General main campus on Davis Island. The simple colors also refl ect the Davis Island main campus. The modern and warm interior, including a hospitality-inspired lobby, were informed by contemporary com- mercial spaces and invokes a sense of tranquility throughout the building. With an eye toward the future, select patient rooms in the ambulatory surgery center are equipped with showers. This will allow patients to stay longer than 24 hours, should the ambulatory surgical center regulations in Florida change. Additionally, the standardized, same-handed exam rooms provide effi ciencies. Caregivers can focus on the patient rather than adapting to various exam environments.
