Lifetime Achievement, Changemaker Awardees Named by Center for Health Design Two awards were recently given during the Center for Health Design's Environments for Aging Conference. Jane Rohde , AIA, FIIDA, CHID, ACHA, AAHID LEED AP BC+D, Green Globes CIEB As- sessor, principal/founder of JSR Associates, Inc., received the Change- maker Award. Elizabeth, (Betsy) C. Brawley , AAHID, IIDA, CID, president of Design Concepts Unlimited, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Changemaker Award is given to those who have demonstrated an excep- tional ability to make change happen in how healthcare facilities are designed and built, and whose work has had broad impact throughout the industry. As a champion for a widespread global cultural shift toward de-institutionalized senior living facilities, Rohde utilizes Evidence- Based Design approaches to inform her global outreach. For over 25 years, she has improved the lives of elders through edu- cation and presentations. The Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to recognize the contributions of an individual over their entire career. With more than 30 years of experience as a designer and consultant for healthcare projects nationwide, Brawley creates envi- ronments that enhance the lives of people in assisted living, skilled nursing, adult day healthcare and Alzheimer's special care settings. Walt Vernon Appointed to HCI Board of Directors The Health Care Institute, an IFMA Alli- ance Partner, has appointed Walt Vernon , CEO of Mazzetti, to its board of directors. He brings to this new role his insight from more than 30 years of experience working with healthcare clients of all sizes around the world to plan, design and operate their facilities. He serves on the NFPA 99 Electrical Systems Technical Committee, is the vice chair for the ASHRAE 189.3 Committee and represents ASHE on the ASHRAE 188 Committee. Vernon is on the board of the Research and Development Committee for the Facility Guidelines Institute. He also sits on UL1069 for Nurse Call Systems and the ANSI E60 Setting Standards for Sus- tainability Committee and is leading the team developing the American Hospital Association's Sustainability Roadmap and Energy to Care programs. GS&P; Hires Mark Henderson as Executive Vice President of Healthcare Mark Henderson , AIA, has been named executive vice president of Gresham, Smith and Partners' Healthcare market. As EVP, Henderson will provide guidance and direction for the fi rm- wide practice while enhancing market knowledge, fostering client relationships and furthering the market's growth strategies. Henderson has more than 27 years of experience in healthcare design with a strong background in practice leadership, as well as working with large healthcare programs and institutions in the U.S. and internationally. Thomas Gunn Joins Ghafari as Senior Healthcare Planner Thomas Gunn , AIA, has joined Ghafari Associates as a senior healthcare planner. Gunn brings nearly 40 years of architec- ture, planning and project management experience to the fi rm. Gunn specializes in the planning, design and development of healthcare facilities. He led the planning and design of the $125-million Detroit Receiving Hospital and Wayne State Uni- versity Health Center facility in Detroit, Michigan, in addition to assembling the planning team and jointly developing the Detroit Medical Center master plan. Passey has over 20 years of experience in architectural planning and design and is recognized Jill Bergman Joins HDR as Principal Jill Bergman , AIA, ACHA, EDAC, LEED AP, has joined HDR as a healthcare principal and vice presi- dent in the San Francisco, California of ce. In her new role, she will be work- ing with the Northern California team on project leadership with business development responsibili- ties. Bergman has provided consulting services in medical planning, facility planning operations and marketing and business development leadership. An ACHA-board certifi ed healthcare architect, she has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare facilities programming, optimization, planning and design.
