10 Medical Construction & Design | NOV EMBER / DECEMBER 2015 | MCDM AG.COM Projects completed & upcoming Intermountain: Jim Fairchild; Innovative: Sandy DeWitt Intermountain Medical Center Unveils Hybrid OR Intermountain Medical Center in Utah now has a new operating room that merges traditional surgery with ad- vanced imaging technology. The new hybrid operating room allows surgeons to perform interventional radiology with traditional surgical functions of the operating room in one place. New imaging devices enable minimally invasive surgery, which is less traumatic for the patient. The project scope included complete demolition of two existing operating rooms to make the needed space for a single OR to accommodate the surgi- cal team and equipment required for the complex procedures. While the size of a typical large OR is around 600-700 square feet, this hybrid OR with control room is 1,060 square feet, plus additional space for an equipment room and substerile support space. The total project involved 1,700 square feet of remodel. The project was designed by TSA Architects. Construction was completed by Okland Construction. Calm Care New South Miami Cancer Institute Features Calm Aesthetic Inside and Out The Innovative Cancer Institute in South Miami, Florida was recently completed. The 61,500-square-foot, four-story radiation and cancer treatment facility includes a clinical area, offices and open-air parking garage. The institute is located on the buildingÕs first floor and features a new radiotherapy system, a first-of-its-kind technology in Florida. The facility was designed by Gresham, Smith and Partners and built by ANF Group, Inc. The building is styled with features that complement the emerging South Miami neighbor- hood. Aluminum cladding, frosted and clear glass, brushed metal signage and a smooth- texture white stucco finish distinguish the exterior. Interior features such as art collections, waiting area landscaping and views to lush gardens generate interest and alleviate anxiety. Neutral, contemporary offices and clinical areas contribute to a calming aesthetic. Structural Framework Complete on Buffett Cancer Center A topping-of ceremony was recently held at the Fred & Pamela Buf ett Cancer Center to mark the completion of the structural framework for all fl oors of the 10-story research tower and the 8-story patient care areas in the $323-million facility. The 615,000-square-foot building is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017. It is one of the largest projects for the State of Nebraska and the larg- est for the University of Nebraska. It will infuse $537 million annually into the economy. HDR is providing profes- sional services including architecture, engineering, programming, concept development, graphic design and health- care consulting. Kiewit is the construc- tion manager/general contractor. Nine dif erent beams were raised during the ceremony. Over the past six months, the beams traveled more than 2,000 miles around the state with people signing the beams at such events as the Cattlemen's Ball, the Ambassador of Hope Gala and the Nebraska Science Festival. The project is being funded through a combination of public and private funds. Topping-Out Celebration Held for Providence Transmountain Robins & Morton celebrated the topping out of The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus, a new multi-million dollar teaching hos- pital and medical offi ce building in El Paso, Texas. The fi nal beam was adorned with both the Texas and American fl ags next to an evergreen tree. The facility is slated to open fall of 2016 and will feature inpatient and outpatient surgery clinical departments, a level four trauma center, physical therapy services, an imaging department, recovery rooms, an endoscopy suite and central sterile supply. Once completed, the 140-bed teaching hospital will become the fourth acute care hospital under The Hospitals of Providence umbrella. The new hospital will provide an educational site for medical students, nursing students, resident physicians and faculty from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso and will offer training for approximately 75 medical residents across a multi-year program.
