This year saw a host of healthcare projects earn- ing their respective honors. Winning projects exemplifi ed a variety of innovative tech- niques and delivery methods, exceeded client expectations, harnessed the talents of team members, reduced waste and optimized ef ciency. The following is a snapshot of this year's award-winning projects: Associated General Contractors of America Alliant Build America Awards Cincinnati Children's Hospital — Location T — Clinical Sciences Pavilion in Ohio was recently named an Alliant Build America Award winner by the Associated General Contractors of America. Awarded in the cat- egory of new buildings over $200 million, the pavilion was built by Messer Construction Co. and designed by GBBN Architects. Messer accom- plished and exceeded its goals through Integrated Project Delivery, harnessing the talents of multidisciplinary teams to reduce waste and optimize ef ciency. Other healthcare projects recog- nized include the following Merit Award winners: BUILDING NEW $10-199M Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital Santa Rosa, California Architect: Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. General Contractor: Unger Construction Co. BUILDING NEW OVER $200M Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Expansion, Columbus, Ohio Architect(s): HOK and Moody-Nolan General Contractor: Turner Construction Company Middle Tennessee Chapter of Associated General Contractors Awards The Saint Thomas Health Joint Replacement Center project in Nashville, Tennessee recently received an Award of Excellence from the Middle Tennessee Chapter of Associated General Contractors. The project was honored in the $16-18-million renovation category. Completed in August 2015, the $16.7-million, 67,200-square-foot center is located on the eighth fl oor of Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital. Three patient wings and a medical imaging depart- ment were converted into a pre-operative medicine clinic, a sterile processing depart- ment, prep and recovery bays and eight surgery suites. Two ancillary patient fl oors were also renovated to relocate three patient fl oors/depart- ments before construction could begin on the surgery suites and supporting areas. The project team included Turner Construction, Freeman White and TME, Inc. Intelligent Health Association Awards Humber River Hospital, the fi rst fully digital hospital in North America, received a Special Recognition Award from the Intelligent Health Association. Each year IHA recognizes an individual or institution that has dem- onstrated leadership in the digital health community. Three outdated legacy sites were merged into a new showcase facility, one that integrates technology across all hospital systems to enhance patient care. The new 656-bed facility opened in October 2015, serving more than 850,000 residents in northwest Toronto, Ontario. The hospital was designed by HDR and built by PCL Constructors.
