Specialty patient populations require specialty care.
And specialty care requires specialty facilities fit to
deliver not only optimum care, but comfort while patients
are receiving treatment. Consider this: From 2000-10,
the population of Americans ages 65 and up increased
by 15 percent (source: U.S. Census Bureau). On a sepa-
rate note, by Jan. 1, 2026, the population of cancer survi-
vors in the U.S. will rise to an estimated 20.3 million,
according to the National Cancer Institute. Are facilities
fit to care for these populations? The following pages
represent best practices and trends in creating a variety
of specialty care facilities.
