HGA Healthcare Leader Elevated to AIA College of Fellows Kurt Spiering , FAIA, has been elected to The College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects. He is vice president and national healthcare market sector leader in HGA's Milwaukee, Wisconsin offi ce, where he directs an integrated approach to healthcare planning focused on Lean strategies, Evidence-Based Design and the patient experience. The AIA College of Fellows recognizes architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the architectural profession. New Managing Director Named for Perkins+Will's Houston, Texas Offi ce Diana Davis , AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been named managing director of Perkins+Will's Houston, Texas offi ce. A gradu- ate of Rice University School of Architecture, she returns to Houston after 18 years in the fi rm's Atlanta, Georgia offi ce, where she served major healthcare clients such as The Mayo Clinic, Duke University and the University of Texas. Davis succeeds Raymond Beets, who has led the Houston practice for 13 years and will retire later this year. Her background in healthcare will complement the Houston offi ce's core areas of expertise, which include science and technology, as well as higher educa- tion. It will also help the offi ce expand its off erings to serve a wider variety of clients. SmithGroupJJR VP, Healthcare Design Leader Elevated to AIA College of Fellows Sam D'Amico , FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been recently elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows. D'Amico is a SmithGroupJJR vice presi- dent and design leader for the fi rm's Health Practice. Based at its San Francisco, Califor- nia offi ce, he is com- mencing his 35th year practicing architecture throughout the U.S. as well as parts of Asia. D'Amico approaches every project with a specifi c architectural response that integrates the client's culture, context and place. His design tenets include the integration of daylight, nature and art into the healthcare environment to improve the healing process. D'Amico has designed for world-class teaching institutions and national leaders in healthcare such as the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente and Barnes Jewish Hospital. LS3P Healthcare Architect Joins Council to Help Make Hospitals Safe Places to Work Ronald H. Smith , AIA, ACHA, EDAC, LEED AP, a healthcare architect in LS3P's Raleigh, North Carolina offi ce, has been invited to serve on the Healthcare and Social Assistance Sector Council, a multidisciplinary group charged with setting research priorities for the National Occupational Research Agenda of the National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health. Key aspects of council membership include "providing input on research gaps, needs and emerging issues; sharing work and learning about evidence-based ways Sonja Bochart Toby Hasselgren, AIA, has recently been named a partner at ZGF. In his 21 years at ZGF, he has played an instrumental role in the development of landmark projects for a growing number of academic institutions, corporate clients, healthcare providers and government agencies. Weston Hockaday, P.E., has been promoted to assistant mechanical engineering depart- ment manager for the healthcare engineering group in Dewberry's Raleigh, North Carolina offi ce. His technical experience includes the design and construction of building mechani- cal systems with a concentration on digital control systems. The Health Care Institute's Chicago, Illinois group has strengthened its board with the appointment of Jenny Hansen, strategic accounts executive at Leopardo Companies, as program co-chair. In this new role, Hansen will help the local organization launch new events in the year ahead. Gustavo Alfonso has joined Gresham, Smith and Partners' Miami, Florida healthcare studio as a senior architect. Alfonso brings 30 years of design experience in a variety of facility types including healthcare, mixed-use, high-rise and commercial. David Redemske, RA, ASHE, CCHP, has been named health planning principal in HDR's Chicago, Illinois offi ce. He has focused his 27-year architectural career exclusively on healing environments and has become a nationally recognized expert in designing fl ex- ible environments that encourage collabora- tion, accommodate advanced technology and support patient-centered care for positive outcomes.
