Projects Designed by Perkins+Will and built by Turner Construction, the new Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth Cancer Center in Middletown, New Jersey blends Evidence-Based Design principles, such as views to nature and abundant natural light, with state-of-the-art cancer care. What started as a 400,000-square- foot rectilinear offi ce building with little to no natural light at its core, a private offi ce-lined perimeter that obstructed shared views to the outdoors and gener- ally poor accessibility is now a light-fi lled space with undulating interior walk- ways and views to nature throughout. Each of the center's 18 infusion therapy rooms faces a window to the outdoors, providing a direct view to nature. The interior design draws on ele- ments of hospitality to ensure the comfort of patients and their families. The traditional waiting room has been replaced by a series of "micro experi- ences:" welcoming parlors, dens with lounge chairs and TVs and libraries with stocked bookshelves and iPad bars. Three distinct entries help eliminate the sense of frenzy and hurriedness. One entry accommodates general use, another serves daily radiology and oncology patients and the third entry is dedicated to caregivers, practitioners and other hospital staff . completed & upcoming STATS: 120,000 SQ-FT CLINICAL SPACE > 50,000 SQ-FT DATA CENTER > 18 INFUSION BAYS > 30 EXAM ROOMS IN BRIEF Memorial Sloan: Halkin Mason ADAPTIVE REUSE 1980's Office Building Transformed into New Cancer Center
