6 Medical Construction & Design | J U LY/AUGUST 2017 | MCDM AG.COM Ground has been broken on the redevelopment of a 126,000-square-foot critical access hospital for Samaritan Pacifi c Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon. The Neenan Company serves as the lead architect and general contractor for the project, partnering with Gerding Builders, LLC. The hospital will offer an integrated medical campus that brings together specialty departments, ancillary services and outpatient clinics. The project is planned for completion by the end of 2019. MedProperties Holdings LLC and Caddis have formed a joint venture to develop the 90-bed, 67,566-square-foot Destiny Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Surprise, Arizona. The build- to-suit hospital will provide both inpatient and outpatient treatment for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. It is expected to be completed in fall 2018. The general contractor is Jokake Construction and the architect is the Devenney Group. Ground was recently broken for the new Inspira Health Network hospital building in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. Being built under the Integrated Project Delivery approach, the project team includes Skanska, Array Architects, Leach Wallace Associates and CBRE Healthcare. When fi nished, the fi ve-story facility will include 204 hospital beds. Construction is scheduled to be complete by December 2019. Construction has begun on the Erlanger Children's Outpatient Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. When it opens, the 90,000-square-foot facility will serve as the hub of pediatric healthcare for an entire 50,000 square mile service area. It is slated to be complete by early 2019. The project team includes McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and HKS Architects, Inc. Projects East Tennessee Children's Hospital Surgery and NICU addition and renovations are complete. Located in Knoxville, the new $75-million, 271,121-square-foot tower houses a 14-room surgery platform, multi- specialty outpatient clinics and a 44-room, all-private neonatal intensive care unit to meet the growing demand for pediatric health services in the region. The project team included BMa, Shepley Bulfi nch and Johnson & Galyon Construction. Located on the top fl oor of the building, the NICU features all private rooms. Amenities in the new space include a family suite with kitchen facilities, resource center and a walk-out roof garden that became a defi ning space for the NICU and provides a much-appreciated outdoor respite area for families and staff . The roof garden with a view of the Smokey Mountains and the multi-level glass bridge, featuring both family and public spaces, became the central design features of the new expansion. The fi ve- story tower, which seems to change color depending on vantage point, emphasizes the signifi cance of natural light in this project. The entire expansion sits atop a 165-space, two-story parking garage. The light courts provide daylight to every interior room and defi ne the neigh- borhood organizational model for the unit, making the space feel more personal and private and contributing to intuitive wayfi nding.
