10 Medical Construction & Design | SEPTEMBER /OCTOBER 2017 | MCDM AG.COM A ribbon-cutting ceremony was re- cently held to mark completion of a new 128-bed hospital wing at Ventura County Medical Center in California. The medical tower, which replaces a portion of the hospital built in the 1950s, was constructed for Ventura County under a Design-Build contract with Clark Construction and architect HOK. The tower provides numerous medical services, including emergency services, surgery obstetrics, intensive and neonatal intensive care units and imaging. In ad- dition, it has been designed to be seismi- cally safe in the event of an earthquake. The Design-Build method used by the team to deliver the OSHPD-regulated medical center incorporated innova- tive ways to complete the project in 48 months. The team utilized Lean construc- tion principles and a phased approach to designing, permitting and constructing the four-story, 242,000-square-foot wing. Projects completed & upcoming CARING COMMUNITY New Community Cancer Center North Offers Treatment, Support Services for Central Indiana Patients Community Health Network's Community Cancer Center North in Indianapolis, Indiana recently opened. The facility, designed by CallisonRTKL and built by Meyer-Najem, was created to meet the growing demand for cancer care in central Indiana. Within the three-story, 104,000-square-foot cancer center, adult cancer diagnoses are treated with a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, oral chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. The facility is connected to Community Hospital North via a sky bridge for additional resources and convenient access for inpatients. The new cancer center includes spaces for support groups, physical therapy, art and music therapy, tai chi, massage and exercise within the facility to help patients and their families relieve stress and anxiety. An onsite boutique provides support for patients and satisfies their retail needs. EXPANSION READY Updated Aventura Hospital & Medical Center ED Lobby Sets Stage for Larger Expansion Project Stantec has completed the architecture and design of HCA Aventura Hospital & Medical Center's emergency department lobby. Located in Florida and built by DPR Construction, the renovation of the 7,000-square-foot space is the catapult for a larger, new emergency department expansion project set to be completed later this year. The new layout features 14 treatment pod areas created by modular partitions, which achieve a higher level of care and effi ciency by providing more privacy and one-on- one experience between healthcare providers and patients. The new space includes two triage rooms, four consultation rooms, two nurse stations, one cashier's room and one main waiting area. Additionally, the new results pending room will circulate low-acuity vertical patients away from exam rooms into a lounge area that boasts more of a relaxing atmosphere where they can wait on results. While the space is modern and luxurious in design, it still maintains critical hospital standards. Earthy colors and materials were used throughout, with rich walnut wood tones interspersed with translucent panels and patterns inspired by nature. Touches of soft blue hues on the fabric, and large picturesque windows, allow the blue skies and landscape to be the perfect background.
