Technology concepts The technolog y implemented is confi gured to enhance fl exibility for researchers, patient care and the patient experience by bringing control and comfort to the patient bedside. Patient rooms are confi gured to support patients' ability to easily access research materials, meal menus, daily schedules and medical records. Patients can also control lights and window blinds from their bed. In addition, patients are able to plug in their personal technolog y, such as gaming systems, at the bed headwall and connect to the monitor within the room. The entire facility was constructed to facilitate connectivity and data gathering for research. This is accomplished through a mix of cabled and wireless connectivity. Data raceway is arranged in a manner that allows the space to be readily reconfi gured to support new concepts and technologies in research and care areas. Data points are gathered electronically in the corridors and within the ability labs to assist in monitoring patient progress. An example is the gait track, a harnessed motion assist system, which has the capability to track the distance traveled by a patient over time. The gathered information is seamlessly tied to a patient's EMR, allowing immediate analysis and observation of improvements or setbacks. This provides a feedback loop, off ering key insights to clinicians and researchers. A new model of research, care The creative mechanical, electrical and technolog y systems design at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have given patients, clinicians and researchers the tools needed to achieve a unique and superior connectivity, confi gured in a way that enables the growth and recovery of its patients, as well as the science behind it. It is this new model of research and care that will continue the long history of excellence the world has come to expect from today's Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
