50 Medical Construction & Design | NOV EMBER / DECEMBER 2017 | MCDM AG.COM applications, case studies & best practices s Products The directors at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center focus on providing quality care for all their cardiac patients. To continue its award- winning work, HHNM administrators collabo- rated with the Hartman + Majewski Design Group to transform an offi ce space into an advanced hybrid suite that includes an operating room and an observation theater. The room features a GE Discovery IGS 740 imaging system, which utilizes 3-D medical imaging to help plan, guide and assess surgery in real time. The system can be positioned almost anywhere in the op- erating room without cables or mounting points and allows staff at HHNM to per- form complex procedures with freedom of mobility and precision. Hartman + Majewski Design Group and HHNM wanted to showcase the hos- pital's branding through use of calming, coinciding imagery. Additionally, the hos- pital planned to broadcast live procedures to other medical professionals from the new hybrid operating room. It was im- portant to the team to combine advanced technology with pleasing visuals to make the room camera-ready. It was necessary for the team to ensure the hospital's nearly 2,200-square-foot hybrid suite met rigorous standards for optimizing safety, care coordination and effi ciency for staff and patients. The hybrid operating suite may be used for multiple procedures each day, so surgical teams must be able to quickly clean and prep the sterile room after each operation. The design team took advantage of Acrovyn by Design, a fully customizable wall protection product by Construction Specialties, and its ability to integrate any logo, brand or image. Acrovyn by Design was incorporated to show the hospital's branding during operations and broad- casts. This is done through the use of fl oor-to-ceiling walls, which were tailored to display the hospital's patient-centered branding in a soothing way. "Medical procedure cases are planned in the room to be electronically broadcast throughout the world, and Acrovyn by Design provides the means to integrate the Lovelace Heart Hospital brand into the ar- chitecture of the suite in an elegant way," said Elisa Gugerty, director of cardiovas- cular labs for Lovelace Health System. HHNM's hybrid suite allows maximum fl exibility for both simple and complex procedures and is adaptable for myriad future uses. Also, Gugerty added that cleanliness within the operating room environment is critical. Acrovyn by Design provides a surface on all walls that can be easily scrubbed down. "Customization was an essential factor in the design of the suite," said Randall Marshall, vice president of creative ser- vices for Kilmer Kilmer Marshall Duran, the project's creative agency. "We wanted to incorporate the well- known Lovelace daisy with a soft palette of colors to help patients feel calm and very well cared for. In addition, we were required to provide an easy-to-clean, durable wall solution. With Acrovyn by Design, we have a product that delivers creative and customized branding, as well as timeless durability."
