18 Medical Construction & Design | NOV EMBER / DECEMBER 2017 | MCDM AG.COM Wireless Space Sensors Aid in Optimizing Control of HVAC, Lighting Systems The Carrier i-Vu building automation sys- tem has been enhanced to include a new line of self-powered, wireless space sen- sors. These new sensors provide fl ex- ible installation options, allowing building climates to be controlled for optimum comfort and energy effi ciency. The new wireless sensors monitor a variety of building conditions includ- ing temperature, humidity, motion and light, as well as the opening and closing of doors and windows. The data is then shared with the building automation system so users can develop intelligent control strategies to optimize the control of HVAC and lighting systems in the building. ID#103 Healthcare HVAC Spotlight Pump Module Now Controls Multiple Zones of Active Chilled Beams Semco has introduced the Neuton Multiple Zone, a controlled chilled beam pump module capable of controlling active chilled beams in up to fi ve small rooms in hospitals, schools or other commercial buildings. This cuts chilled beam control equipment and installation costs by 60 percent, while provid- ing personalized air comfort. The included Advanced Logic premium room monitor/sensor reports temperature informa- tion to the Neuton, which is connected to and compatible with all building management system brand protocols. Neuton's intuitiveness reduces the expense of a separate chiller, boiler and secondary water distribution system as- sociated with conventional chilled beam HVAC designs. Instead, each Neuton blends and re-circulates return water within its zone to convert typical 42 F and 140 F primary loop water temperatures to optimal 58 F and 100 F chilled beam discharge temperatures. This prevents cooling mode con- densation and heating season heat stratifi cation. ID#100 Daikin Applied's Rebel rooftop air handler offers a customizable chilled wa- ter solution featuring segment-leading technologies that provide for a com- plete single-sourced system. Combined with either Pathfi nder or Trailblazer air-cooled chillers, users capitalize on the 22+ IPLV performance of an air-cooled chiller for a complete system solution to match application needs. Energy effi ciency is at the core of the design, gaining up to 15 percent energy savings from Rebel's standard direct drive airfoil supply and ECM fans. The factory-installed energy recovery wheel captures and recycles lost energy, increasing the HVAC system effi ciency and reducing the mechanical cooling capac- ity by as much as 30 percent to help exceed AHRI and ASHRAE 90.1-2016 standards. Air Handler Offers Complete System Solution, Higher Efficiencies Cooling Towers Constructed with Anti-Microbial Resin Delta, which pioneered the HDPE (high-density polyeth- ylene) plastic cooling tower in the 1970s, has just launched a line of towers constructed of antimicrobial resin, which is fully compounded into the base cooling tower material. The antimicrobial resin contains additives that operate on a cellular level to continuously disrupt and prevent uncontrolled growth of micro-organisms and biofi lm within the cooling tower. Effi cacy tests were performed by Special Pathogens Laboratory. A 20-year factory warranty provides evidence of the durability of the HDPE cooling towers. ID#101 New Chiller Line Offers High-Efficiency, Ultra-Low Global Warming Potential Trane has expanded its Series S CenTraVac chiller line with the new CVHM model. Available in 170-370 ton range, it can be applied to any commercial building including retrofi ts and system replacements. The chillers are available in oil-free and oil-lubricated confi gurations, providing customers with the highest full- and part-load effi ciencies. Customers can select the chillers to operate with R-123 or R-514A, a next-generation refrigerant also known as Opteon XP30, with ultra-low global warming potential of less than two. The combination of high-effi ciency operation and use of a low-pres- sure, low-GWP refrigerant provides lower greenhouse gas emissions and opera- tional costs, and offers customers choic- es on when and how they want to start using next-generation refrigerants.
