The survey found more than half (51 percent) of respondents plan to invest in power distribution and management in the next 12 months. Among the top objectives driving this investment is patient satisfaction, cited by 84 percent of respondents as being important or very important. Power availability and reliability, improved safety and fi nancial performance were also among the top anticipated benefi ts to be derived through advanced power systems. Demand for IoT-enabled or connected services such as real-time power monitoring or smart panels also varied by size of facility. In large facilities, 73 percent have implemented at least some IoT power solutions. However, around one in three smaller facilities are not considering this technology, highlighting a need for education about the opportunities and benefi ts smaller facilities can realize by integrating IoT in power systems. The competition honors outstand- ing originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of healthcare interior spaces. "The Brandywine Valley Specialty Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center feels inviting and playful, yet restrained, appealing to patients of all ages—a diffi cult balance to achieve in a healthcare setting," said Lisa Herriott, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C, interior designer, project manager, UW Medicine | Harborview Medical Center, on behalf of the jury. Texas Children's Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Facility Management Texas Children's Hospital has won the 2017 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award for its Mission Control project, which created a unifi ed operations and communica- tions hub that uses real-time data to eff ectively manage the movement of patients. The award, presented by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering and sponsored by Trane, recognizes individuals or facility management departments that implement new or innovative programs or processes to optimize the physical environment and improve patient care. The Mission Control room at Texas Children's Hospital, a 745-bed facility in Houston, houses a large LED display showing patient admissions and dispatches, the location of ambulances and other key information. Each workstation has four monitors showing information vital to the patient transportation process. By being in the same room and sharing information, the team can make the best decisions about patients coming to or leaving the hospital. After the project was completed, the hospital's transfer team reduced the time from dispatch to pickup. The decrease in response time led to an increase in transports to the hospital.
