Women's Health 'One-Stop' Center Opens in Indiana The St. Vincent Carmel Women's Center in Indiana — a new "one-stop shop" where women can receive care for all of their health needs — recently opened. The outpatient facility was developed by and is owned and managed by Duke Realty. BSA LifeStructures was the architect on the project and Brasfield & Gorrie was the general contractor. The four-story, 95,000-square- foot outpatient facility is directly connected to St. Vincent Carmel. A wide variety of amenities includes a full-service café, pharmacy, a health boutique, preventive health seminars and a community room with a demonstration kitchen. Projects Energy Plant Project for VA in St. Louis Provides Stable Support A $58-million energy plant and utility infrastructure project for the Department of Veteran Af airs Jef erson Barracks Division, one of two campuses for the VA St. Louis Health Care System, was recently completed. The upgrades increase ef ciency and reliability for campus facilities, which will support a growing patient base. In addition, the project featured a new primary electrical substation, demolition of multiple structures and major utility infrastructure upgrades, including steam, chilled water, power and low-voltage distribution systems. The project team included general contractor McCarthy Building Com- panies, Inc., subcontractors Guarantee Electrical Company, Kelpe Contracting, Inc. and Rock Hill Mechanical Corpora- tion. The design team included Christner, Inc., KJWW Engineering Consultants, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Stock and Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc. and Code Consultants, Inc. Cardiovascular Center Supports Progressive Care Model The new Prebys Cardiovascular Institute in La Jolla, California, is conceived to be the region's largest and most advanced center dedicated to cardiovascular care. The 383,000-square- foot tower, located on the campus of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, was designed by HOK. The project team included McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. as general contractor and Jacobs Project Management Co. as construction manager. The seven-story, 167-bed hospital includes 59 intensive care beds, four operating rooms, two hybrid operating rooms, three cardiac catheterization labs and an electrophysiology lab connected to centralized research labs and a center for graduate education. The exterior composition of brick, glass and metal panels respects the aesthetic of the surrounding campus buildings. Northeast Georgia Medical Center Begins Serving Community The 100-bed Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton recently opened and features a "Zero-Plus" design strategy aiming for sustain- able results, while also looking at how energy can be generated and reclaimed. Targeting LEED-Healthcare Gold, green features include: low-fl ow fi xtures, "purple pipe" re-use wa- ter for HVAC make up air and a geothermal ground source heat pump system in lieu of a standard legacy central energy plant. The project, which sits on 119 acres, includes a 237,700-square-foot, three-story hospital, plus 113,500-square-foot medical offi ce building. It is built for future expan- sion and is intended to serve residents of Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall and Jackson coun- ties.
