TECHNOLOGY & METHODS
Hospitals and other industry stakeholders that utilize
project-management software have a wealth of valuable historical cost and vendor data. Data and service provid- ers are in the business of making vendor and cost data readily available to facility owners. The technology today makes it easy to access and use data within the project- management software. The connected data concept has especially strong fi nancial benefi ts in the bid process. Sev- eral forward-thinking hospital systems, including Scripps Health and Inova Health are using this connected data in the bid process to reduce project costs 1-3 percent. With connected data in the bid process, a facility project manager can be more effective. He can go to one system and see historical pricing, current project pricing for his own network of bidders as well as pricing (net of rebates) for the wider partner network of bidders. More choice and more information results in better selection and lower cost for the same scope.
Because the connected data concept requires all data be presented in a specifi c format, the computer can ag-
gregate and present it to the project manager. It is not a manual process, therefore it happens quickly and presents the project manager with information to use and act on im- mediately. All rebate information is readily available to the project manager furthering the ability to take immediate ac- tion. Each vendor is lined up in an apples-to-apples format and can be easily compared to the historical data. Connected data, which is technically made possible by the Internet, will continue to change our lives. Using connected procurement data to reduce project costs is just one example of the possibilities and the opportunities available. If you thought the Internet brought big changes in the last 15 years, hold on tight for the ride ahead. The next 15 years will result in even more.

In 2010, e-Builder partnered with MedAssets, a provider of revenue cycle management and clinical resource management solutions, to provide connected bid data to leading hospital systems across the U.S.
