Columbia St. Mary's Health System of Milwaukee, Wis. recently consolidated its two east-side hospitals into a $417-million facility overlooking Lake Michigan.
AS ECONOMIC HEADWINDS IMPACT the healthcare industry, the fun- damental design of healthcare facilities changes. This means intensifying collaboration in the early stages of design in ways never before imagined. Time is money, so the faster a hospital can be built without compromis- ing the vision of quality care, the faster it will start generating revenue. To adapt to this real- ity, design and construction are evolving to trim the time between architectural drawings and the moment the fi rst patient receives treatment. One of the latest advancements is a pro- cess called Trade Management Partnership.
